​The city of Amsterdam with its inspiring architecture and numerous beautiful canals offers many different attractions for different tourists with different tastes. Its rich history spans more than 700 years, and in that time Amsterdam has evolved into a melting pot of cultures where people from very different backgrounds come together to enjoy the unique urban environment because Amsterdam truly has something to offer to everyone.
 
Amsterdam has become a tourist Mecca that attracts visitors from all over the world, and there are amenities, attractions and accommodations to be found at every price point for travelers of all types. While Amsterdam does offer many truly unique and luxurious hotels that are the equal of anything the rest of the continent has to offer, not every traveler to the historic city can afford to stay at a 5-star hotel. In response to the wide and varied tastes and budgets of its many tourists, Amsterdam also has some hidden gems in the form of budget hotels and hostels that deliver the Amsterdam urban experience at very affordable rates. Here is a rundown of some the best budget accommodations available in Amsterdam today:
 
Stayokay Hostel Amsterdam Vondelpark

Amsterdam’s Vondelpark area is a favorite hangout for lounging, picnicking, drinking, cycling and skating. The nearby Stayokay Hostel is a schoolhouse-turned-hostel located inside the greater park area. The Stayokay Hostel is clean and modern and offers hundreds of affordable rooms for hikers, backpackers and other day trippers. At the low end, hostel beds start at just $25 per person, while private double rooms begin at an affordable $75 with bed and breakfast.
 
Backstage Hotel

The Backstage Hotel's name and the interior feature a music-oriented theme with various
guitars and music memorabilia covering the walls. The hotel is sponsored by the Jack Daniels brand and its location is only minutes away from the downtown theatre district as well as a selection of bars and clubs. The décor is musical-minimalist and the furniture is inspired by musical instrument flight cases. White light bulbs line the mirrors to lend an authentic dressing room feel and there is a four-person Guitar Hero room available too. Depending on the room, doubles can stay at the Backstage Hotel from $100 to $150 for the room only.
 
Chic & Basic

The Chic & Basic is an old canal house that has been renovated with a classic Mediterranean feel featuring bright white walls and minimal furniture. Unlike the seedy budget hotels in the Central Station area, the Chic & Basic is a solid, inexpensive hotel option that boasts a great central city location while delivering clean rooms, adequate services and free Internet at very affordable rates. Doubles at the Chic & Basic start at $120 per night.
 
City Center Bed and Breakfast


The City Center Bed and Breakfast is a small B&B located near the central Nieuwendijk shopping district that provides a taste of central Amsterdam living with easy access to many nearby attractions. The rooms are clean if sparsely furnished and all bathroom facilities are shared. Doubles start at just $120.
 
Flying Pig Uptown Hostel


The Flying Pig Uptown Hostel was created as an uptown alternative to the owner’s existing Flying Pig Downtown Hostel in the red light district. The uptown location near the Vondelpark next door means lots of people and activities at all hours. The Flying Pig hostels are dedicated to guests under the age of 35 and all rooms are shared situations. If you’re feeling adventurous, a queen-size bunk in shared room costs only $35 per night at the Flying Pig Uptown Hostel.
 
Citizen M

The Citizen M is a new Dutch hotel chain that has been gathering praise since opening in Glasgow in 2010. A combination of quality service, luxury bedding and budget prices have made the made the Amsterdam Citizen M a must-do destination for everyone from backpackers to business travelers. All of the rooms are identical with futuristic glass and many high tech features including ambient colored lighting controlled with a Philips MoodPad. The location is residential, but the city center is still close by. Doubles at the Citizen M start at $100 for the room alone.
 
Hans Brinker Budget Hotel


No mention of budget accommodations in Amsterdam would be complete without including the Hans Brinker Budget Hotel, famous for its long-running advertising campaign that has boasted that the Brinker is "a cheap, dirty, cold, poorly-lit youth hostel with rusty beds. ‘ Obviously, the Brinker is all about location and price, offering clean and quiet facilities located next to the busy Leidseplein nightlife district. The Hans Brinker Budget Hotel is perfect for younger travelers on a budget who want to see and experience Amsterdam without spending a fortune on lodgings. Individual hostel beds start at $35 per night and doubles begin at $105.
