The Best Way to See Amsterdam
Although there are many good ways to see Amsterdam as a tourist, the I Amsterdam City Card may offer the most economical way to the see the city’s many great attractions.
The Dutch capital of Amsterdam is celebrating the 400th anniversary of its famous canal system along with a few other anniversaries this year, making 2013 a very good year for tourists to see the city and its many great museums and art galleries. The other anniversaries being celebrated this year include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra that was founded 125 years ago, the world famous Van Gogh museum, and the Rijksmuseum that contains some of the most famous works of art on display in all of Europe. The combination of anniversaries and celebrations is expected to boost the number of tourists attracted to the historic city this year and the demand for flights, rooms, and reservation bookings from incoming tourists is already about 25% higher than it was last year at this time.
With the peak summer tourist season in Amsterdam on the horizon, many aspiring visitors are starting to think about the financial realities of what it will cost them to make the trip to see the sights they want to see and somehow have enough cash left over to get home again. In this light, one good suggestion and travel option that many people may want to take a closer look at is the “I Amsterdam City Card.” The card offers free or reduced entrance to most all of the major museums and attractions, several free canal cruises and free transportation on the city’s extensive bus and tram system.
Previously known as the “Amsterdam pass,” the I Amsterdam City Card now offers discounts on more things to do and see in the city than it did in years past. In addition to the discounts and passes for the museums, canals and public transportation, the card now also provides discounts at many of Amsterdam’s great restaurants, reduced rates on car and bike rentals, inexpensive gift options, great prices on Dutch cheeses, as well including various discounts on multiple other tourist attractions too. Every tourist who wants to see the great attractions in Amsterdam without spending more than they have to should be quite interested in the I Amsterdam City Card package.
The I Amsterdam City Card package is a product from the Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board and is intended primarily for adults and children over the age of 12 because smaller children already receive free access to most of the attractions as well as discounts on public transport too. Each purchaser of the card receives a sealed package that contains multiple passes to the popular attractions along with a separate public Transport Ticket that is valid for the same period of time as the card. The card buyers will also receive a handy guide to using the card and the included vouchers during their stay. The cards can represent quite a bargain for the average Amsterdam tourist since the prices are relatively low at just $55 for 24 hours, $70 for 48 hours and $82 for a full three days of passes. Interested parties can purchase their cards online at the iamsterdamcitycard.com website.
